One day someone at Dark Horse asked if I was interested in writing a story about young Hellboy. I wasn’t, but instead of saying no, I said “What about two pages of Hellboy eating pancakes?” I thought it was a riot. I didn’t expect anyone else to like it, but it turned out to be a big hit with a lot of readers. It’s nice when that happens.

This is one of my favorite pieces of Hellboy canon. (Also, I have this voice that I do as young Hellboy… it’s somehow simultaneously deep & yet child-like. And “I don’t like pamcakes… they’re yucky!” is my favorite thing to say in that voice. So thank you. 🙂 )
I also like, how in the movie, he still calls them “pamcakes”.
