this is what happens when ur friends on FB w/ppl you knew in high school & haven’t talked to since. smdh #WhitePeopleThisIsWhyNobodyTrustsYou
my reply:
actually what I see isn’t ‘hate’, but concern trolling from someone who is comfortable in the fact that they’ve had the privilege to never think deeply about these issues (ie, white privilege).
my & Beyoncé’s humanity is inextricable from any of the other identities we inhabit, and to try to say I’m ‘just’ a “human being” is to wilfully ignore the beauty and vibrance of how the history & reality of these impact my presence in the world. there are academic studies out there showing that people who try to “look past race” (ie, colorblindness, “I don’t see race”, etc) actually contribute to the proliferation of racism more than they do anything to counter it. there are also studies that show that white people as a group are less capable of feeling empathy for PoC than they are other white people, and even more studies (the “doll test”) that show that children tend to see whiteness as overall ‘better’ than Blackness, even in white parents who never talk to their kids about race in any way. all of these are available via google search and you’ll find examples of each on multiple academic, peer-reviewed sites.
but sure, my “anger” at holding folks accountable for their specific action (which, btw is not ‘attacking everyone’) is “the real problem”
in the end, I recommend you look up the term “whitesplaining”, too.
Oh lord “you used to be such a happy person…” Ugh.
