Ever think the antique dresses we ooh and ahh over now were considered ugly back then? Like, “Can you believe she wore that to court? The train was barely 3 yards in length”.

You know what? I never thought about it! I imagine there were the same type of feelings towards certain styles and colors, but people’s tastes back then were different from what they are now. And I don’t just mean long billowing dresses to a mini skirt. I mean color combinations. Have you ever seen Victorian fashion plates?

And a train only three yards in length?! The scandal! Court was a place to be seen in your absolute best! Lol. Thank you for the idea! Very interesting topic.

Some of the Victorian “tacky” colour combinations puzzle me – I’m not sure if it’s a cultural thing, or if the pigments they were using really would have made blue and green a terrible pairing.
