Hmm, aren’t they essentially the same thing? I mean obviously the catalyst changes but the basic premise is the same. Although I guess with pon farr you know it’s coming so it’s easier to get consent.
I kind of feel like I should like pon farr more, but sex pollen, as long as you acknowledge the issues with consent, I think is more appealing to write. Probably because I’m not that into TOS, to be honest. (For a long time I thought TOS stood for “The Old Startrek”.) I mean I know you can apply the concept to any fandom but it’s so tied into cheesy midcentury scifi for me.
Doesn’t sex pollen affect everybody, whereas pon farr is “"this one individual has to get laid or they’ll die?”
