One of the tl;dr points of the Snopes article that should be directed to all the people saying “It doesn’t matter if she paid for it or if it was a gift, she shouldn’t’ve worn something so expensive to give a speech on economic inequality” is that, hey, she didn’t–this was from her New York primary victory speech (and, guess what state Giorgio Armani US operation is based out of…not, of course, that there aren’t other designer labels with operations in NY, but this criticism isn’t because it’s Armani, it’s because it’s stupidly expensive, so there’s no designer she could have worn that wouldn’t get the same criticism–and, y’know, if she’d worn something from, like, Nordstrom or JCPenney, people would be snarking about that, too, no matter where or why she made the appearance.  Sorta* like people make fun of Bernie’s normal somewhat rumpled presentation.) ((*But not really.)) ((And of course Tr~mp doesn’t get anywhere near giving speeches on economic inequality–and no-one would believe it if there were a photo of him captioned as doing so–so no-one’s wondered how expensive his clothes are to try to make a point.))
