DiMA is a trecherous, manipulative murdering machine and tumblr praise him like a little child
It’s like Anders all over again
*steeples fingers*
– without DiMA intervening with his fog condensers, Captain Avery, and probably every human on the island with the possible exception of the Children of Atom who enjoy a radiation immunity, would be dead anyway. DiMA insisted on gifting them the fog condensers, Faraday says so. His concern is primarily the safety and security of his own people but he isn’t without empathy for the needs of others, either. Even when some of those others hate his people as much as their counterparts in the Commonwealth do, even when some of those others are bat-crap crazy. Recall he gave the Children their home, as well.
– of anyone, synths are in the most danger of any people in the Commonwealth. In the Institute they’re chattel, in the wastes they’re feared and reviled almost universally. There’s an entire heavily-armed invading army, currently dedicated to their total genocide. Covenant is a baited trap designed to lure them to a slow & agonizing death by torture & execution. There’s one random encounter between three people, two of whom have just found out the third is a synth – regardless of the fact that he’s never done them a moment’s harm and doesn’t intend to, they immediately pull their weapons and it’s on you to save his life. "Other synths are shot on sight,“ Nick tells you. Even in Diamond City, where Nicky’s been a force for good for decades before you arrive, there are people who hate and distrust him just because he’s a synth.
“Protect the murderer because he’s different” is childishly oversimplified, and inaccurate. “Forgive the desperate escaped slave trying to prevent a massacre & hold together the raggedy community he built with his own hands” is nearer the mark.
– DiMA. was. literally. born. a. slave. A thing. Experiment fodder for demented scientists who tortured him daily in the name of ‘science.’ IN SPITE OF THIS he managed to escape, managed to help Nick escape, managed to find his own sense of purpose and direction, and most amazingly of all, managed to prevent himself from becoming a bitter out-of-control engine of slaughter killing every human he met – b/c honestly, that woulda been a project for me, if I was in his shoes.
– given all of that, the fact that DiMA managed to establish a sanctuary for his people is damn near a miracle in itself.
– I don’t believe DiMA’s act of desperation – replacing Avery with a synth who could influence the opinions of Far Harbor RE: please don’t murder my people on sight – can be judged on the same level as random murder. Every other option failed him, his people were in danger and they had nowhere else to go. He isn’t a violent person, he took no joy in the killing, but he believed it was necessary to keep his people safe. He involved no one else, save his volunteer; he allowed Faraday and Chase, and the others, the luxury of simply believing they’d managed to win themselves a bit of acceptance. And even though he was convinced there was no other way, he was so overcome with guilt he had to bury the memory of what he’d done along with Avery’s body. He’s devastated when you return that memory to him.
– honestly I feel like his use of a mind-wipe / memory implant on a fellow synth even though he equates both with savage brutality only makes it clearer how urgent and dangerous the situation was. If we consider it an example of him violating a personal principle along with a ‘human’ commandment. If he were just some cold-blooded killer, murdering Avery would have meant nothing at all to him and his first act would have been to defend himself and justify the killing rather than to practically collapse.
– DiMA’s further ‘manipulative’ suggestion of replacing Tektus with a synth as well is literally the only bloodless solution to the problem. You can either commit mass-murder (either of the islanders or the Children of Atom), call in the Brotherhood to slaughter the whole lot of them, call in the Institute to “reclaim their property,” or you can allow one volunteer to attempt to change hearts and minds. You don’t even have to KILL Tektus, you can run him off instead. DiMA even acts as a moderator between the two groups regardless of the fact that them killing each other wouldn’t really affect his community one way or the other.
– in conclusion, no. I will not stop praising him like a little child, DiMA is my darling little angel boy, gentle-hearted brother to my beloved St. Nick, I shall place a crown of flowers upon their precious heads, and none can prevent me.
