Empathy Cards
Back in May, Emily McDowell Studio released an incredible line of Empathy Cards. As a cancer survivor, McDowell had been on the receiving end of some good-intentioned wishes that were a little, well, tone-deaf. She wanted to help people find the right thing to say to friends and loved ones going through tough times and she totally nailed it. (Source)
For anyone going through a rough time right now, here are a few things featured on the @sixpenceee blog that may help!
[7 images of greeting cards. they read:
- You’re not a burden. You’re a human.
- I wish I could take away your pain. Or at least take away the people who compare it to that time their hamster died.
- When people say “it’s a marathon, not a sprint,” I don’t think they get how much you hate running.
- Laughter is the best medicine! …until they find an actual cure for what you have. I’m sorry you’ve been feeling lousy.
- Together, we can find a cure for the phrase, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
- The five stages of grief: [then a list: crying in public, crying in the car, crying alone while watching tv, crying at work, crying when you’re a little drunk] I love you.
- If this is God’s plan, God is a terrible planner. (No offense if you’re reading this, God. You did a really good job with other stuff, like waterfalls and pandas.)
