President Eisenhower did something similar in 1954 as well. It was disgustingly named “Operation Wetback”. Over 1,000,000 people were apprehended in just the first year. If I’m not mistaken I believe it went on until around 1962.
Thumbing through my history tag for something and stumbled upon this. It is…unfortunately relevant information right now.
My best friend’s grandfather came home one day to find his family had been “repatriated” and as a result he was effectively orphaned at the age of 10 or so. He didn’t find out until DECADES later that he had siblings who were trying to reconnect.
