Today IN: Crap People Really Want to Argue About for Some Reason?
1. Lady Liberty shown as Black woman on U.S. coin for first time
2. White people apparently believe that there were no Black people in France when the Statue of Liberty was made, this being somehow relevant to all subsequent anthropomorphized concepts represented visually in metal because ???¿¿¿????
3. Please help cure my tension headache by reading this very brief summary of Black Abolitionists in 1700s France from NYPL
4. You could go ahead and have a look at what I have here tagged “France” and notice it goes back for a few millennia, so please show me where to find the “everyone was white back then so something something you can’t have a Black woman on a coin” century
5. OR, we could just let anthropomorphized concepts of our supposedly American values just BE Black because Black people exist and are allowed to be representative of American Liberty or French Liberty, live in both Europe and the Americas, and don’t need some kind of weird “historical accuracy” style justification for representing a concept on a frigging coin????
6. *rubs forehead for 20 minutes or so*
7. I’ll update this post with any articles I find by Black women about this.
