To my chicago people who ride CTA please know that today, Homeland Security with CPD were performing random checks at the Addison red line station. I’m sharing information shared from FB as well but please y’all be safe.

2/14/2017

The Chicago Transit Authority and Chicago Police Department are performing “random” checks on behalf of Homeland security at CTA stations. They are telling people that if they do not submit to a search they will be asked to leave the CTA’s “private property.”

DO NOT CONSENT TO A SEARCH. DO NOT SHOW YOUR ID. DO NOT TALK TO THE POLICE.
You can call ACLU 312-201-9740 if you see anything and want to report it.

If you or anyone you know is in CPD custody call 1-800-LAW-REP4. Lawyers from First Defense Legal Aid are available 24/7 to help Chicago arrestees, regardless of whether the arrest is social justice or immigration related.

@copperbadge, signal boost?

Good Chicago news to know. This is also 100% more information about what to do if law enforcement or Securitas gets in your face on the CTA than I was EVER able to find out when I went looking a year ago (I wanted to know what would happen if one of those tragic-looking “security” dogs they drag around ever actually alarmed on someone, but information was pretty fuckin’ scarce).

Fuck everything.

@copperbadge this really seems to play into your theory from a few days ago; that was in fact the first thing I thought of when I saw it.

Where do you think the Reichstag is these days?

Being honest, when I get off the bus and stop for groceries on the way home, I end up walking north on Wabash from Roosevelt, with a clear sightline straight across the river to Trump Tower. And these days every time I see it, I wonder if I’m going to be looking at it when a bomb goes off.

And it’s so fucking paranoid of me to think that, like, I know what a nutbar I sound like. I remind myself that it’s a potential event, not a certainty, and at this point still not entirely out of the realm of “wild fantasy”. But it sure helps that I no longer work in a downtown high rise.
