The Chicago Transit Authority and Chicago Police Department are performing “random” checks on behalf of Homeland security at CTA stations. They are telling people that if they do not submit to a search they will be asked to leave the CTA’s “private property.”
DO NOT CONSENT TO A SEARCH. DO NOT SHOW YOUR ID. DO NOT TALK TO THE POLICE.
You can call ACLU 312-201-9740 if you see anything and want to report it.If you or anyone you know is in CPD custody call 1-800-LAW-REP4. Lawyers from First Defense Legal Aid are available 24/7 to help Chicago arrestees, regardless of whether the arrest is social justice or immigration related.
@copperbadge, signal boost?
Good Chicago news to know. This is also 100% more information about what to do if law enforcement or Securitas gets in your face on the CTA than I was EVER able to find out when I went looking a year ago (I wanted to know what would happen if one of those tragic-looking “security” dogs they drag around ever actually alarmed on someone, but information was pretty fuckin’ scarce).
