for some reason a lot of people think that broadcasting ‘death to all jews’ as a ‘funny meme’ to legions of ten-year-olds watching funnyman youtube videos isn’t like
a big deal
but you know what? it’s a pretty big deal and it’s weird that so many people are picking ‘defend youtube star’s edgelord anti-semitism’ as their hill to die on
I mean even if you think it was a joke (which it wasn’t, really) even if you think he was just doing it to be edgy & test the boundaries of what he could get away with, you still can’t really defend him because he did test those boundaries and he got slapped down for it
he practically begged to be fired & de-monetized by stupid stunts like this and now that it finally happened he can’t act like he’s fucking surprised someone actually did it
For all the people complaining at me that I’m apparently unaware of satire and irony, because I don’t think PewDiePie was funny and am glad he’s suffering the consequences, there’s this perspective.
I’ve seen a number of popular white gentile youtubers defending him.
“He’s not antisemitic!”
No, he just does and says antisemitic things and gets support from white supremacist groups.
Pewdiepie tried to see if two guys could be payed to say “death to all jews” and immediately criticized them for doing it. He wasn’t saying it as a joke for shock value or to be edgy at all. He wasn’t even doing it as a joke. He does not have support from nazi groups either.
He’s made numerous anti-Semitic remarks during recent videos, dressed as a Nazi, paid people to write ‘Death To All Jews’ and then re-broadcast that to his entire audience. He has been publicly supported by Neo-Nazi groups & sites, such as The Daily Stormer who have thanked him for normalizing anti-Semitism. He was doing all of this to be shocking and edgy and he got righteously shit on for it.
