Ceremonial Headdress possibly worn by Empress Dowager Cixi, late 1800s, China.
Empress Dowager Cixi was interesting because she, as the late emperor’s chief concubine and mother of his child, was co-regent with his widow Emprees Dowager Ci’an, so there were *two* Empress Dowagers at the same time, and by time, I mean for about twenty years (Cixi continued to rule for a couple of decades after Ci’an’s death).
