I grew up United Methodist and Gave is a super big deal in that tradition. My favorite John Wesley thing is the notion that we dare not withhold communion from anyone for we know not if might be the means of grace!
An agent of grace (as I see it) can be a person in whom you see God, God’s love, Christ; it can also be someone who without knowing what they are doing saves your life or your soul.
I was part of an online discussion group back ‘00-‘01. One of the members stayed over night in NYC at the home of two other members on the night of 9/10/01 and kept them up very late talking… They were still at home getting ready for work when the planes hit. She worked in building 7 and her husband in the North tower. She described their pagan, kinkster houseguest as, “an unknowing agent of grace who saved our lives and renewed my faith.”
& that’s just one example.
You mentioned “the agent of grace in your own life”. What does that mean, exactly? I grew up Roman Catholic and am pretty behind the curve when it comes to the understanding of all things Grace. (I learned the basics when I attended St. Lydia’s in Brooklyn last summer. They were teaching the basics of their Evangelical Lutheran faith and taught about Luther’s ideas on Grace and where they came from, and I was like *MINDBLOWN*.)
