But about every six weeks or so I stop at a local sandwich place that has Diet Ski in bottles.

Now most of you will never have heard of Ski, but I assure you, it is a wonderful beverage made of lemon juice concentrate, orange juice concentrate, and fizzy water. The diet version is sweetened with sucralose!! AND it has 29mg of caffeine per 20oz bottle!!!! YAY!

The name and formula came from the Double Cola Company of Chattanooga, Tennessee; but (I believe) it is now only made and bottled in Breese, Illinois and is a huge favorite in Clinton county and most of the rest of southern Illinois.

Hm. I recall a country song with the chorus “we’ll get a slawburger, fries and a bottle of ski.” I’d assumed it was some regional term for beer, likely shortened from “brewski,” but now I’m thinking it was this stuff.
