i’m pretty sure if you asked the average allied soldier, “hey would you rather be crouched in a war zone, wondering whether or not your friends and family are still alive, haunted by the possibility of a worldwide nazi victory, or would you rather be living in the era decades after hitler’s defeat, having never known what it is like to take another man’s life, carrying around a phone you can use to call anyone you love at any time, safely instagramming your avocado toast,” he’d be like, “what’s avocado toast? does it involve bullets? i am interested in this version of events where i eat brunch and am not shot at”
