Ok but the fact that Luke wasn’t there

thedeadliestlittleone:

It was so important?? Luke Skywalker is a legend; by keeping him away from the real battle, the movie gives space to the real rebels, the common people, to manage the real fight.

Luke Skywalker keeps his role as a myth, and doesn’t magically save the day; however, his precise role as a legend, and his appearance to save the rebels, show us how stories can inspire and save, and light a flame, or keep the last embers alive, give new hope. And from that spark of Hope, the Rebellion lives on. It will never die.

The legend of the boy who saved the Galaxy from Evil remains such; the same legend creates and saves warriors for the next generation.

It also occurs to me that the manner of his death was
important – Rey and Leia know he’s dead, at least physically, they might tell
Poe and the other leaders, but from the PoV of the average person in the
galaxy? This mythic character just showed up, made the First Order look like
fools, then vanished, and no one saw a body so he’s still out there. Even if he never appears again, he’s like Arthur,
not dead just hanging out in Avalon until the time is right for him to return.
That’s a major morale boost for the Rebellion.
