oh hey btw I know I sometimes get down on myself for being INCAPABLE OF WRITING NORMAL THINGS but this one’s for all of you fic writers out there (including me):

the world of fanfic is like a really bizarre ecosystem, and everyone fills a particular niche.  Even if we don’t get that niche ourselves (like how I don’t understand the appeal of high school AUs, for example), we’re all fulfilling a role that makes fanfic, as a whole, thrive.  And like, even if you think the idea is overdone, it isn’t?  Like, did some zebra look at the Savannah and go “oh shit, I better just turn around and give up, there’s already One Other Zebra here, they got the Zebraing all covered here, oh well” NO!!!  NO IT DID NOT!!!  THE SAVANNAH’S ECOSYSTEM CAN’T THRIVE ON JUST ONE LONE ZEBRA WE NEED LOTS OF THEM!!!  So whether you’re a zebra or a blade of grass or a turkey vulture or a pygmy hippopotamus it doesn’t matter!!  You’re fulfilling a role in your fandom’s fanfic ecosystem and helping it thrive and diversify!  So write the thing!!
