Which oddly even tho he was from the Kyoto area, Shinsuke didn’t – he went to Aoyama Gakuin in Tokyo because of their wrestling team (or at least, because their wrestling team uniforms were less ugly than his second choice lol).  I’d just never gone to their website before…..this actually goes some way to explaining why Shinsuke sometimes uses christian-sounding terminology even though as far as I know, he wasn’t that way raised.  Which I’ve always been v. curious about.  I mean…it’s possible, it just seems really unlikely given the comparatively small percentage among the population.

IIRC, while the percentage of Japanese who ID as practicing Christians is fairly low, many of the universities were founded by 19th-century missionaries so they do get exposed to it.
