I was over at the new place today (hereby dubbed The Speakeasy) and took about an hour to do some measurements and redraft the floorplan with a greater degree of detail. It feels very satisfying to have a truly accurate draft, down to the literal 11″ wide door on the tiny cupboard at the southern end of the kitchen.

Story of the Useless Lightswitch: I assumed the lightswitch in the bedroom would power or depower some of the outlets also in the bedroom, but this doesn’t appear to be the case. I imagine it’s for a nonexistent overhead lighting fixture, but at the moment it appears to just be a dummy that I will spend the next ten years automatically flipping when I enter the room even though I am well aware it won’t help.

I also papered and installed the shelves back into the kitchen, and did a little cleaning up, but I think essentially it’s ready. Which is good because I still have packing to do….

what…is a murder wall

i need to know

I called it Murder Wall because it used to look like this:

Thirty feet of streaky, murder-dungeon red 😀

@copperbadge where was the murder window located?

Excellent question! If you look at the floorplan, it’s in the western-facing wall. The two windows on either side of the awkward column won’t open at all, but the window south of those two, the only one not touching a column on that wall, that’s the window that almost killed me during the first inspection.

Because I know people will ask: it was propped open, which was fine, it was a balmy day – literally that’s how long it took to buy it, it was still autumn when I had the inspection done – but my realtor was trying to take a phone call and there was a lot of noise coming up from the alley below. So I thoughtfully decided to pull the window down, and as soon as I budged it, it came CRASHING down with a boom so loud it scared the inspector in the other room.

Quite the moment, let me tell you. 😀

Summer should be interesting. I don’t generally open the windows I have now, like I’m not a huge fan of having windows open or anything, but once it’s warmer and the frames are less likely to be frozen, we’ll see how many of the windows  I can budge without breaking them.

Sam, I gotta tell you, this whole thing has been both amusing and reassuring as we kind of went through house buying together (so stressful, so satisfying, so expensive!), but today as I was reading this latest post on my iPad, it shows the whole “More Posts Like This” thing, and it was… probably the most perfectly composed mood board aesthetic photo for the entire #sam bought a house tag.

So I couldn’t resist, ran it through some “edgy” filters and voila. @copperbadge buys a house moodboard.

I crack myself up way too easily, but I hope you find it as amusing as I did.

AHAHAHA OH MY GOD

Such a big mood, very much my mood

THE BEST PART, THE HAMBURGER IS IN THE MIDDLE.
