mamoru:

I know this is long but please if you are able-bodied and have never experienced disability please read this at least once. Please. House just passed a bill, H.R. 620, that makes the rights of people with disabilities completely optional. Under it, disabled people would not have any rights ANYWHERE before they experience discrimination and/or humiliation in-person, have the entire 51 page Americans with Disabilities Act memorized, and then track down the owners who chose not to follow it, confront them, and file a written complaint that details the humiliation they just encountered and cite the specific part of the ADA that was violated. Only THEN are they allowed to sue or complain legally, or say that their rights have been violated. Oh, and there is no required time frame for anyone to comply. All of the above situations are what happens WITHOUT this bill, on a daily basis, and with it things will be so much worse.

Disabled people would have to confront every single business, every single service, every single place they go, every single time they experience an ADA violation before they have rights in their life. Do you have anxiety? Are the owners of somewhere very volatile? Are you afraid of confrontation? Under H.R. 620, every single disabled person who is afraid or unable to confront discrimination or understand a 51 page act or go through the entire process has to live with the knowledge that someone after them is going to be hurt just the same, and to live with that guilt, every single time it happens. This bill forces disabled people to either enforce their own rights on a daily basis or live with not having any, and live with the guilt of not fighting for someone else’s rights. Does not matter if you are sick, does not matter if you are dying, unless you have ample time to spare to be humiliated and go through the entire process every place and every service you want to use in your entire life, you have no rights if you are disabled.

STOP H.R. 620. STOP DISABILITY RIGHTS FROM BEING TAKEN AWAY. CALL YOUR SENATORS TODAY AND FIGHT BEFORE MY RIGHTS GET TAKEN AWAY
