In the late 80’s Pascal Blais ”reunited a bunch of artists from the original Heavy Metal movie“ to produce a trailer for a never to be made “animated 84-minute feature film” based upon the graphic novel The Incal by Alejandro Jodorowsky and Jean Giraud Moebius.

Blais then “decided to revamp it with today’s digital punch” and in late 2011 released this newer, cleaner version that is actually quite incredible. So much so that it begs one to question why a feature length version was never made.

He accounts for this due to being, “busy building my company”. However, it would stand to reason that with enough funding this project would have gotten off the ground and given him the chance to make a film which he feels would be more successful than Heavy Metal:

“Two sequences from the original “Heavy Metal” movie were borrowed from Moebius’s work; “The Long Tomorrow” story and “Arzach”. Given that till this day, Moebius and Jodorowsky are heralded as some of the world’s greatest Sci-Fi visionaries; it seems to me that a film, based on their work would be even more successful than one inspired by it.“

Regardless, with the passing of Jean Giraud Moebius in 2012, the chances of it ever getting made are highly unlikely.
