what did vincent say when he lost his car in the parking lot

“where did my van gogh”

the correct pronunciation of “gogh” is “goff”, you uncultured swine

fuck gogh

Well actually, British people pronounce it “goff” and American people pronounce it “go” and unfortunately, both are wrong. Vincent Van Gogh is dutch so his name is actually pronounced “van KHOCK” so suck my gogh

I mean “van khock” is also wrong, it’s [vɑn ˈɣɔx] which is van (with the vowel from “PALM”) followed by ghoch (English doesn’t really have the gh here but it’s the “g” sound in Spanish “agave”; the vowel is that in “THOUGHT” and the ch is the same as in Scots “Loch” or German “Bach”)

Someone advised years ago to stick with “Van Go” if you’re North
American, because if you say “Van Goff” the Van Go people will think you’re a
snob, and the Dutch will know you’re pronouncing it wrong anyway.
