Also: Whenever I hear a guy go “Oooh, but women don’t like porn” i think of the enormous amount of porn in fandom created by women for women and all I can think is: “Well, maybe we just don’t like your porn…”
We like our porn with feelings and character development and regular updates on AO3
this is the best reaction so far.
“Tantsnusk”, “filth for aunties”, has been used in Swedish as a (derogatory) genre term since the eighties. Jackie Collins, VC Andrews, Jean Auel… Your grandmother has been devouring porn for nearly forty years or more.
And that’s not even touching on the Swedish children from the seventies and forward, who got access to Hans-Eric Hellberg’s “Kram” (”Embrace”) books in late elementary school and entered puberty already well versed in “porn for children”. (I think that tagline was dropped from marketing of the books in more recent decades. *g*)
The main difference I’ve noticed between mainstream porn and slash fic is that the latter shows interestin the characters’ thoughts and motivations rather than just throwing them in bed because the script says so. I don’t know how much this is down to the gender of the creators and consumers, and how much is because it’s easier to convey inner thoughts in writing than in a visual narrative.
