i think it’s a sleight of hand, a tricky bullshit rhetorical play. His fans can look at it and see “government-issued girlfriends,” and so can his detractors, but he leaves himself the retreat against the latter that no, you don’t understand, i mean a SOCIAL ORDER that enforces monogamy, not simply distributing girlfriends.

He always pulls that shit, perpetually a coward.

The commenters over on We Hunted the Mammoth have pointed out that the current social order (at least in, say, N. America) already does enforce monogamy.
