the worst thing about the oppressed white christians thing is

that they go over to countries that the western powers have helped destabilize (Uganda and many countries on the continent of Africa as well as central and south america and India is a big hub for this) and say, “no, it’s not colonialism/imperialism making things so bad. it’s because you haven’t accepted jesus christ into your hearts.” it places the blame on the peoples and tells them they (or their culture/race) need to be fixed because they were bad and wrong and made bad and wrong things happen. this is “so you want to start a cult” 101.

worse than reprehensible. in this way, missions only work to further imperialism.

i also can’t imagine jesus would want gay people killed.

I was reading this awful thing last night that was v. much in the same line, RE: children branded ‘witches’ in Nigeria and abused/killed while the preachers extort money from their parents, though…

Firstly, this form of Christianity emphasises success and plenty – if
someone is failing in life then this is a sign that something is
suspiciously awry.

Secondly, Pentecostal churches portray the world as a literal battleground between Godly forces and demonic spirits.

So the new Pentecostal movement has since popularised the notion that
material fortune is universally available, but that access to it can be
blocked by supernatural forces.

But these Nigerian church leaders are not acting out any traditional African religion or superstition.

On the contrary, Nigerian Pentecostal leaders have copied their
American televangelist counterparts whose churches often behave more
like builders of economic empires than religious organisations.

@yungcrybby-anonymousbosch  This one or am I confused?  It’s not quite missionaries but I mean, it would have started w/ them.
