I’ve noticed people have really divided opinions on the original of this quote (”if you can’t handle me at my worst, you don’t deserve me at my best”), and I think people who’ve suffered one kind of abuse hear it as themselves saying “You don’t get to be with me when it’s fun and convenient for you, and then abandon me when I need help,” and people who’ve suffered a different kind hear it as their abusers saying “If you really loved me you’d let me behave as badly as I want with no consequences,” and I’m not sure what to do about this.
