So if a vertebrate were to evolve this trick then, would they keep growing until they became so big there respiratory system would be unable to fuel all of them?
out of curiosity I started looking up books written by twelve year olds and
BIRDS THAT FIGHT WITH SWORDS
zero and i found this in a thrift shop and. it’s a ride. it’s very competently written, on a technical level- you wouldn’t think it was a twelve-year old until you started paying attention to what the words were saying
the evil birds are so evil, like- this is a twelve-year-old with a very twelve-year-old understanding of how good and evil work. evil is like, a primordial force of badness, sufficient by itself to motivate the villains to atrocity- and naturally, it is opposed by a supernatural deity of pure Good, the titular Swordbird. the birds fight with swords either because one side is Evil, or being tricked by Evil. it’s very zoroastrian, actually. no, wait. zoroavian. it’s amazing.
theres an official and somewhat longer prequel wherein all birds are tyrannized by a corrupt archaeopteryx empire and a young Swordbird (who is not the Swordbird yet) has to go on a quest to… get swords
the athiesm of women/people of color/lgbt people is absolutely different than the athiesm of cishet white men and i feel like people forget that a lot
how?
Don’t have spoons for long explanation – also this is only speaking for christianity – but religion has been a force of oppression for women, people of color, and lgbt+ people and the rejection of the religion is often coupled with the rejection of how religion treats them.
I’ll also say that abuse survivors are included in this because it is a reaction to and an attempt to reconcile how (christian) god would allow abuse to happen.
For straight white men atheism is usually rooted in intellectual and rational superiority complexes. It’s a “i am more rational and intelligent than you, how can you believe in something so obviously fake” thing as opposed to a reaction to a societal institution that upholds their oppression and abuse.
Women, PoC, Queer people, immigrants, trauma survivors, etc: How can I believe in something that teaches you to be cruel? How can I trust the books that tell me of peace and love, when you use your faith to hurt me? How can a loving god allow [insert injustice of the day]?
White Men: I, as an Intellectual, eschew silly superstitions that say I might, someday, after my death, face one (1) single consequence.
I saw the last part of this posted yesterday without the lead-up, and at least one person interpreting it as “see, the Left wishes, against all reason, for Hell to exist so they can fantasize about their opponents burning eternally.”
y’know the biggest self drag is whenever anything written by a straight guy has one of those “sad artsy sex scenes” that are beautiful and dramatic but are passionless and leave both participants scarred forever.
like imagine being so bad at sex you need to make a whole movie to romanticise it.
Are these the kind where the characters just wordlessly go
up to each other and kind of fall into bed without so much as a “Did you have
any trouble finding my apartment?”
and then they watch as their lives crumble around them in a series of super goth disasters yeah imagine being so bad at sex the girl dies by tragic irony in a world she is too beautiful to understand
you don’t have to like him personally, but thomas sanders makes kid-friendly lgbt content, is a very consistent and active ally to women, trans people, neurodivergent people, and poc, and is overall a great role model for the kids who regularly watch his content. his whole Thing is spreading positivity and empathy, and teaching lessons in emotional maturity through his videos.
but i guess it’s popular to hate him all of a sudden just because?? he really likes disney and harry potter???? what the fuck tbh
people did like him, but then he outed himself as an inclusionist. pretty much as soon as he said he considered ace people members of the LGBT community, people started shittalking him, combing his blog for problematic content, accusing him of being a pedophile for not curating nsfw art that was sent to him, and calling him a “straight ally” even though he is openly bisexual.
i witnessed the change. some didn’t. i think it’s important we know where it comes from.
What the f u ck. Just let the ace people be in the community what the hell
I stay away from ace discourse usually but that’s the stupidest reason to start hating someone
I love Thomas and he doesn’t deserve this. He has a heart of gold and wouldn’t exclude anyone if they aren’t hurting anyone. Ace people deserve to feel welcome in this community. Ace people deserve a safe place just as much any other lgbt+ person does. You don’t have the right to exclude anyone from the community as you see fit. It’s wrong and dare I say ironic. Trying to repress a whole sexuality- refusing them representation- sounds pretty damn inronic to me.
If you would report an undocumented immigrant to ICE you would have reported me to the Nazis and I don’t fucking trust you
A note:
I live in a state where you “have to” report anyone you suspect of being undocumented (that wonderful hellhole of Arizona). Now in practice this law has fallen far short, thank goodness. But if you live in such a place and they start enforcing it, here is how you get around it:
Assume everyone who doesn’t speak English is visiting.
Never ask about their job, because if they tell you they work here then you know they’re not visiting. You see them a lot for several weeks or months? Hm. Someone in the family must be ill. That’s terribly tough. They always dress in old, ratty laborers’ clothes? I feel you, my dude, I can’t afford new clothes either, and my dad has the fashion sense of an aardvark, so sometimes it’s not even about “affording” them. They say they’ve been here for years? You must have misunderstood. Spanish isn’t your first language, after all. First and last name? It never came up, or you don’t recall–you meet a lot of people.
And then, if you’re asked: no, you haven’t seen anyone residing illegally in the United States. Just people visiting.
