You know, those stories about architectural artistes actually piss me off. It’s like movies. The person whose name is on the posters or in the history books has the Big Vision, proclaims So Mote It Be, and then swans off with a martini while a battallion of the rest of us make it actually functional. And then Big Picture Guy comes back to slurp up all of the credit and most of the money. And the film editors, engineers, etc.–women, nonwhites, people of the wrong religion–are forgotten.

Yep, it’s a big problem in the art world as well, and it’s starting to become more visible – “large scale” artists tend to conceptualize the product but it’s actually created by others. It’s tough to know what to do about it other than point it out and try to promote the visibility of working artists and artisans whenever we can. 

Paul R. Williams kind of needs a movie though.
