It’s not that Return of the Jedi is in any way comparable to the prequels in terms of weird, unnecessary shit, but there are some super strange scenes they include, like the laughing rat monkey thing, and the one weird external shot where something eats something else, and the scene where two random henchmen of Jabba’s palace cry over their dead monster. It’s not that they’re particularly terrible, they’re just…inexplicable.
R2D2 with a built-in drinks tray, on the other hand, is clearly meaningful to the plot and absolutely necessary.
