As a teacher, let me just say I WANT MORE HAPPY ESSAYS.
I had a freshman student once who turned in her handwritten in-class essay and had drawn hearts instead of stops at the end of every sentence. I felt like the biggest asshole ever but I had to take her aside after class and be like “Look, I personally find this super charming but for the sake of your future professional life you might wanna rein in the hearts for schoolwork.”
She was very gracious about it and turned in her next handwritten essay with the note “See? NO HEARTS! :)” at the end of it.
