What is homestuck???

Many a guy, gal and nonbinary pal have tried explaining the question: what is homestuck. All have perished trying.

I can only advise you to wikipedia it because there’s no way to summarize it beyond “four kids go on a BIG adventure”

four kids want to play a video game together. playing the game causes the apocalypse, but the kids are all fine because they were each teleported to their own unique planet on which they must continue the game or die trying. they do die. they each die at least once (one of them died x infinity because he learned how to time travel; each of the kids is granted a power, but that’s not important).

going back a couple years, shortly after the four kids met, they each started receiving aggressive messages from the same 12 strangers. despite blocking them, the trolls were somehow able to continue messaging the kids.

present day, playing the game: the kids are still talking to the same 12 trolls, who claim to be aliens, and literal trolls. these same trolls also claim to have played the very same game, the end goal of which is to create a new universe, which they did, and that the universe they created is the one the kids were born in.

this is all 100% true

the comic then goes back and covers the 12 trolls ordeals with playing the game. then recaps all the conversations they’ve already had with the kids, until it finally catches up to the kids’ present moment. at this point, the trolls’ game universe had ended and they were all trapped on a meteor (with air, gravity, and buildings and the means for them to survive) drifting through dark space. though they may have only been on the meteor for a few days at most by now, several of them go mad (they were already mad by the nature of some aspects of their biology and culture, but that’s besides the point) and go on a killing spree. only three of them survive, one of which was responsible for most of the killing (AND DISMEMBERING OF HIS FRIENDS!) and one of the trolls who was killed woke up again, now a vampire apparently, because that’s normal? apparently? and she kills the troll that killed her.

from that point things get real messy, as the kids have little to no guidance because of the slaughter, and this is when a lot of dying happens on their end. but they’re fine, because of a game mechanic which can turn them into nigh-immortal pseudo-gods (this is referred to as “god tier”). but they realize that they’ve made bad choices with their game, and their end-boss is now too powerful for them to defeat, even with their combined god-power. so they resort to another game mechanic, called “The Scratch” which resets the universe they were born in, to give their universe a second chance. but to save themselves, and to help their post-scratch counterparts, they use their god powers to escape this now destroyed game universe and travel back to the new/old one. two of the kids salvage an alien ship to get there, while the other two find and meet the trolls in person for the first time, and use their meteor for travel.

this is a very good thing, because due to their post-scratch counterparts not performing a specific game task before being transported to their unique planets, their game session is doomed/dead (there is a difference between a doomed session and a dead one, but i forget what the distinction is) so the original kids NEED to be their for the new ones (who are actually all completely different people, but still biologically related to the original kids)

unfortunately, things get MUCH more complicated at this point, and while i did read a good chunk after this, there’s no way i can feasibly summarize it. i never even finished homestuck. i hope i do someday, though, because it was a big part of my life.

(these are the four original kids after reaching “god tier”)

bless you for the actual explanation

So that’s where the phrase “god-tier” comes from?!
